Adam El-Agez – from idea to $80m/year. So good we had to release twice!

As some of you will know – earlier this year we created a second podcast channel called Business in Between.

It’s a channel that documents our journey as business owners – and where we also host long-form interviews with NZ’s most interesting business leaders.

This week we’ve shared one of our favourite interviews from Business in Between onto the main Between Two Beers channel.

It’s the story of Adam El-Agez who is the greatest Kiwi entrepreneur who you’ve probably never heard of…

From his home in Tauranga, Adam founded fitness app ‘The Conqueror’ which is doing over $80 million in revenue each year across 150 countries.

His appearance of Business in Between was the first time Adam had spoken publicly about the insane rise of the company that recently won “excellence in growing online sales” at the 2023 New Zealand International Business Awards.

Adam started his fitness app in 2012 after 10 years of being an entrepreneur with limited success.

Over six years and hundreds of thousands of dollars later the app was floundering.

All the signs were pointing to giving up all together and he even started getting his CV together and applying for jobs.

Then, in 2019 he met Raul – a “marketing guy” – in an online forum.

In a bizarre series of events, he ended up hiring Raul – who lived in Romania – to run the digital marketing he immediately started growing sales and from an annual revenue of under $100k they grew to $2m in the first year.

The next year they did $40m and $75m in the following two, having secured licensing agreements with franchises like The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Star Wars and Harry Potter.

The business has now expanded globally with around 70 staff in 6 countries with customers in over 150 countries, and Adam has stepped back and handed the reins to Raul.
