November marks our podcast’s 5th birthday, and we want to celebrate in style.
You’re probably aware by now we’re hosting our first EVER live show on Thursday this week!
We’ll be sharing the Between Two Beers story, alongside one of our favourite guests of all time - Jason Gunn and he’s joined by a cast of characters from across the five years of the Between Two Beers Podcast!
One of our favourite guests and much-loved broadcaster from his days on Radio Hauraki to his new gig at Newstalk ZB, Matt Heath is going to join us to bring the night to life.
One of the rare double appearances on the podcast, NZ’s favourite sexologist Morgan Penn is coming along to add some spice to the night and make us squirm once again.
And fan favourite Mark Stafford completes the lineup. Staffy’s episode touched people across the country, and we’re buzzing to have him on our birthday event ticket.
Tickets are limited, don’t miss out on the party, get yours, here: https://betweentwobeers.com/live
If you’re outside of Auckland, there’s also an option to purchase a livestream of the event.
We can’t wait to see you on Thursday!
Special thanks to Liquorland as our presenting partner!
This week’s episode!
Paula George – or Georgie as she’s commonly known – has an incredible story to share - but until now, it’s been kept private…
Her life started on the back foot in Wales. She wasn’t just the only person of colour in her village, but also her family. She was abandoned by her mother, forced into foster care and experienced a childhood filled of prejudice and hurt.
But she found safety in sport, where she became a star.
She played netball and rugby for Wales, then switched to England and became the first black captain of the England Red Roses.
She was one of the first professional women’s rugby players and eventually went to six World Cups in two sports.
She then became the digital content creator for the All Blacks, married a Kiwi and became a Kiwi, had twins, and a cancer diagnosis.
Five years ago she was given four to six months, with survival chances at 25% - but Georgie’s still here.
And now, she’s doing incredible work with the Tania Dalton Foundation where she helps Kiwi kids build their own resilience and happiness.
And most recently she’s become a part owner of The Northern Kahu: the first all-women owned franchise in New Zealand.
That’s just scraping the surface!
Best Laugh: Right up front we tackle the Georgie v Paula George situation after getting prompted by Sir Wayne Smith that she’d hate being called by her full name!
Best Insight: Throughout the episode Georgie amazes us with her outlook on life despite some of the challenges she has had to overcome.
Biggest Surprise: Georgie was scouted as a potential rugby talent by Sir Wayne Smith when she was touring New Zealand as a netball player!
Each week we release some never before seen insights about the pod. If you aren’t already sign up here.
