Before we dive into our Grant Fox episode, a quick note from Steve:
Last week I resigned from my job.
After 12 years working in the sports department at the NZ Herald, the time felt right.
I'd previously dropped down to two days a week to allow more time for the podcast, but it turns out I needed more.
I thought leaving the Herald would free up more of my time, but I've been busier than ever.
And that's because I've been able to lean into all the areas of our growing business that needed attention.
There's the podcast and Hambassadors, our B2B Speakers business and our new legacy interview concept. There are video editing reviews, contractors to manage, sponsorship proposals to write, ads to cut, travel, speaking gigs - and most importantly - all the research we do to make the episodes pop.
Seamus and I now have weekly business meetings, where we put structure to all the noise. But the priority is always the same - make the podcasts the priority, and the rest will fall into place.
But when opportunities present - we pivot.
This is why you may have seen us doing some 'acting' on social media for one of our advertisers last week. And this week we’ll be creating more ‘different’ content at the Halberg Awards
I've traded the life of a journalist for an entrepreneur - and couldn't be happier. Pouring all my time into the podcast business is the hardest I’ve ever worked on anything, but you know you’re onto a winner when it doens’t feel like work.
2024 is shaping up to be the most exciting year of our lives. Thanks for joining us on this incredible ride.
Now back to Grant.
This is Grant Fox like you haven’t heard him before.
Break inside the ‘All Blacks legend’ exterior to discuss his relationship with superstar golfing son Ryan, the importance of being present with your kids and memories of his 40-year friendship with Martin Crowe.
We recorded this episode nearly two years ago - and was one of our favourites of all time. We’re excited to share it with our new listeners.
Biggest Surprise: There were plenty of tears in this one. There was not a dry eye in the room when Grant was talking about his work with Bug Buddies or his best friend Martin Crowe.
Best Insight: Grant places huge importance on family, and being a good dad. He also recognises that not everyone is lucky enough to have a stable family unit, so volunteers his time with Big Buddies, a charity setup to make a positive difference for kids aged between 7 and 14 without fathers.
Best Laugh: We contacted golf superstar son Ryan to help us prep for the one, and some of the behind-the-scenes yarns of what it was like touring with his dad were golden.
Speakers
