Between Two Beers Newsletter
Megan Compain has one of the most impressive CVs that's come across the BTB desk.
She was the first Kiwi to play professional basketball in the USA and the only one to play in the WNBA, had three pro seasons in Europe, and represented New Zealand for 10 years and at two Olympic Games.
She has since also worked globally for Adidas, done three World Cups as an All Black staffer, become a board member for Basketball New Zealand and a Sky Sport commentator, runs her own creative agency and is now the newly appointed All Blacks commercial manager.
But this wasn't an ep that just featured the greatest hits.
Megan also addresses the enduring impact of the abuse of trust and grooming she suffered as a teenager at High School in the US. It’s the first time Megan has opened up publicly on some of the most difficult parts of her journey, and we’re so grateful she shared her story – to help others who may be in a similar situation.
Biggest Surprise: The names that Megan rubbed shoulders with during her basketball career, and the stories that went with them: Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Mark Cuban.
Best Insight: How Megan's perception of her achievements in basketball has changed over the years.
Best Laugh: Steven getting tongue-tied and mixing up the letters on WNBA. Also, how Megan earned the nickname “Google” at NZR.
