Three Million Downloads Milestone and Looking Back - Behind The Pod

Never in our wildest dreams did we think our podcast would get to three million downloads. We went back into the archives recently - and found some of our early messages about the podcast.

One standout from 2020 was us celebrating 24 listens on our episode with sports journalist Chris Rattue.

It made us appreciate how far the goalposts have moved in five years – but also how much we loved that first year.

We weren’t making the podcast with an audience in mind; we were making it for us. And that showed in the numbers.

None of our first 10 guests got more than 300 downloads in our first year. But it didn't matter to us, we were happy.

Our biggest challenge was convincing potential guests that our 'studio' (a desk in my garage) was legit. But it quickly became our favourite time of the week.

Today, we’ve flipped the script. We're now one hundred percent working for the audience.

All the mahi behind the scenes is to try and create the best listening experience, and we think about our approach to each episode a lot!
